. Metal types

.     SN: Use for printing types made from metal. Although in the
. hand-press period metal types were generally made of lead,
. antimony, and tin, types have been made from other metals
. as well. Often, cataloguers will not be able to identify
. the materials used in the composition of their sorts, with
. the exception of brass. This term is probably most useful
. in differentiating metal types from wood types.
