Italic types
Scope Note
Most italics are italicized versions of a Roman face, but a few were designed to accompany Roman types that did not have their own italic and were given names different from their accompanying Roman. For example, Arrighi was designed to accompany Centaur. Italic faces -- both computer and hand-designed -- are often just the roman face slanted a few degrees off its vertical axis.
