Transcribe an original title in a language different from that of the title proper appearing on the title page as a parallel title if it is not grammatically linked to another part of the description. Transcribe an original title in a language different from that of the title proper appearing in the chief source of information as a parallel title if the item contains all or some of the text in the original language, or if the original title appears before the title proper in the chief source of information. Transcribe as other title information an original title in the same language as the title proper (see 1.1E). In all other cases give the original title in a note.

DCRB is lifted straight out of AACR2, except abridges considerably AACR2 1.1D3, including substituting "title page" for "chief source of information."

DCRB leaves out AACR2 1.1D2, the instructions for transcription of parallel titles in second-level description. DCRB appears to contemplate transcribing all parallel titles.

If this rule is to be in a general chapter, probably "chief source of information" should be restored. This would work even if the chapter eventually is used exclusively for books.

The parts left out of AACR2 mean that in certain cases DCRB would transcribe a parallel title where AACR2 would not. This is probably appropriate, given the rare emphasis on transcription for identification.

Note according to 1B1 a parallel title preceding the chief title is considered part of the title proper and thus would not be transposed. This produces a different result in some cases from AACR2. Is this a necessary difference? The same book (e.g., a 19th century book) transcribed under AACR2 and DCRB might have completely different 245 fields. Is this a result that we want?

Consider replacing DCRB "title page" with "chief source of information."

Consider allowing transposition of parallel titles preceding chief titles.
