DCRB 1D. Other title information

DCRB 1D1

Transcribe other title information appearing on the title page in the order indicated by the sequence on, or layout of, the title page. Transcribe other title information not appearing on the title page in a note whenever it is considered important.

AACR2 1.1E2

Transcribe other title information in the order indicated by the sequence on, or the layout of, the chief source of information.

Distribution of the principal kinds of soil [GMD] : orders, sub-orders, and great groups : National Soil Survey classification of 1967

Comparison:

DCRB and AACR2 have the same language as each other except DCRB adds "appearing on the title page" and substitutes "title page" elsewhere for "chief source of information" and adds instructions for what to do with other title information not appearing on the title page. The addition of "appearing on the title page" is apparently to make up for omitting AACR2 1.1E1 ("Transcribe all other title information appearing in the chief source of information according to the instructions in 1.1B.")

Comment:

There seems to be no reason to depart from AACR2 in the matter of "title page" vs. "chief source."

The instructions about other title information appearing outside the chief source might be self evident. Is it necessary, particularly given the addition of "appearing on the title page" to the first sentence? Are catalogers clamoring to transcribe things outside the t.p. as other title information? If not, do they need the permission given here to give such information as a note?

Recommedations:

Replace "title page" with "chief source of information"

Consider removing the final sentence.
