DCRB 1: Title and Statement of Responsibility Area (Robert Maxwell)

DCRB 1A1. Recommendations:

Realign DCRB language with AACR2 (except for cross references).

DCRB 1A2. Recommendations:

Consider replacing "title page" language with AACR2's "chief source" language.

Update "prescribed order" language, taken from the original AACR2, to the current AACR2 language.

Move paragraph 3 ("omit") to a more appropriate place (the specific rules about transcription).

DCRB 1B1-2. Recommendations:

Incorporate the definition portion of the rule into the glossary (if it's not considered adequately defined there) and remove it from 1B1.

Consider redefining title proper to exclude preceding parallel titles, other title information, etc. — at least to exclude preceding other title
information.

Consider placing the transposition rules at the beginning of the chapter rather than in the discussion of title proper.

Incorporate the AACR2 language about wording, order, spelling, etc., as appropriate for DCRB transcription rules.

Keep the rule about notes for transposition and source of title proper.

Add a definition for caption title to the glossary.

Consider reworking the language of 1B1 so that the language of the second part of the third sentence is more in line with AACR2 1.1B2.

Consider removing 1B2.

DCRB 1B3. Recommendations:

Consider moving this to the glossary, or better, to the Examples book.

Find a better example illustrating a title proper consisting solely of the name of a responsible person or body.

DCRB 1B4. Recommendations (bracketed numbers refer to locations in the 0E analysis):

Add, after "to that volume," ", and the designation is grammatically inseparable from the title proper (cf. 1A2), transcribe the designation and"

Add to the second paragraph of 1A2 the AACR2 wording about describing from the first available part.

DCRB 1B5. Recommendations:

Correct the capitalization of "Sermon" in the example.

Change "preferably in English" to "in the language of the cataloging agency".

DCRB 1B6. Recommendations:

Leave as is.

DCRB 1B7. Recommendations:

Keep the negative statement, but consider paring down the DCRB rule on the model of AACR2's language.

Clarify "Extend the transcription of the title proper through to the end of the chief title of the publication."

DCRB 1C. Recommendations:

Consider replacing DCRB "title page" with "chief source of information."

Consider allowing transposition of parallel titles preceding chief titles.

DCRB 1D1. Recommendations:

Replace "title page" with "chief source of information"

Consider removing the final sentence.

DCRB 1D2. Recommendations:

Consider moving the definition part of the rule to the glossary.

DCRB 1D3. Recommendations:

Remove the rule.

DCRB 1D4. Recommendations:

Consider rewording 1D4 to use the same language as AACR2.

DCRB 1D5. Recommendations:

Replace "inseparable" with "integral."

DCRB 1D6. Recommendations:

Leave as is.

DCRB 1E. Recommendations:

Combine 1E1 and 1E2, using AACR2 1.1G3’s language.

Retain the bracketing and note requirements.
