Eric Gill: His Life and Art. By Alan Horne, Richard Landon, and Guy Upjohn. Toronto: University of Toronto, 1991. 54 p., illustrated. |

| Eric Gill has inspired several exhibitions over the last ten years, and it would probably be a difficult act of will to design a really bad catalog using illustrations from his work. The preparers of this exhibition attempted nothing radical, but simply set out Gill's achievements along with a short section on his influence in Canada. The accompanying catalog, uncontroversially combining Gill's Perpetua type with his own illustrations, ranks at the top of the fine efforts on this subject. Designed by Veronica Fisher. Catalog produced in conjunction with an exhibition held April 19 - June 30, 1991 in the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library, University of Toronto. Division Two Winner, 1992. Exhibited courtesy of the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, The University of Texas at Austin. (ST) |
