1992: Division III
Previous | Next

From Palm to Pine: Rudyard Kipling, 1865 - 1936.

With an essay by Corinne McCutchan and a catalog by Mildred Abraham.

Charlottesville: The University of Virginia Library, 1990.

62 p., illustrated.

Persuasively written and expertly compiled, this catalog is the best kind of "keepsake." Informative and handsome, it offers an intriguing new view of Kipling as an ironic critic of his times. This catalog's purpose was threefold: to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Kipling's birth, to encourage renewed interest in Kipling's works, and to publicize the Rare Book Division's Kipling Collection. The items on exhibit are listed, with annotations that describe the distinguishing feature of each item and emphasize Kipling's artistry. It offers the reader a clear understanding of the exhibition between the handsome covers that illustrate its title.

"The Keepsake of an Exhibition in the Department of Special Collections, University of Virginia Library,
