RBMS Committee Service Interest Form

Thank you for your interest in serving on an RBMS committee. RBMS offers many opportunities for service and professional development, and depends on the involvement and dedication of many volunteer members. If you haven't done so already, please review the our committee listing and committee descriptions in the RBMS organizational manual.

Committee appointments are for two-year terms, and appointments may be renewed for a second, but not a third term of service. Appointments begin with the adjournment of the ALA Annual conference. Committee members are expected to attend all committee meetings at the ALA Annual and Midwinter meetings and fulfill any assignments between meetings. You must be a current, dues-paying ALA member and an ACRL/RBMS section member to serve on an RBMS committee.

To indicate your committee service preferences, please complete the ACRL volunteer form on the ACRL website. To access the form, you will need to login to the ALA website with your username and password. If you have not yet created an ALA website account or have forgotten your password, simply follow the instructions on the login screen.

The volunteer form includes several fields that will allow you to tell us about your ALA/ACRL/RBMS activities, your educational and professional background, and desired areas of service. You will also have the opportunity to volunteer for specific committees. You may ignore the submission deadlines. We will be delighted to hear about your committee service interests any time of the year, although most appointments are made during the spring.

All RBMS committee appointments are made by the current RBMS vice-chair/chair-elect in consultation with committee chairs and members of the RBMS Executive Committee. Decisions are made on the basis of vacancies and relevant experience. If you are not appointed to a committee in a given year, please do not become discouraged. Consult with the committee chairs and section vice-chair/chair-elect about other service opportunities or committee internships.

Once you complete the form, please send a message to the current RBMS vice-chair/chair-elect, Erika Dowell (vicechair@rbms.info), stating that you have done so. Unfortunately, the appointment does not presently notify vice-chairs when new entries have been submitted. We appreciate your interest and want to get in touch with you promptly, so please be sure to let us know when you have submitted your entry.
