RBMS Manual / Cosponsorships
Background: From time to time RBMS is asked to cosponsor the program of another group or is interested in cosponsoring the program of another group. From time to time another group offers to cosponsor an RBMS program.
Considerations:
- Cosponsorship implies a set of mutual obligations.
- RBMS has an obligation to exercise quality control over any program it cosponsors.
- In a spirit of coordination and cooperation RBMS should engage in cosponsorships.
Guidelines:
Cosponsorship by RBMS of the program of another group
When RBMS is asked to cosponsor the program of another group, the Conference Development Committee is responsible for initiating or responding to program proposals shared with other sections or organizations, and making a recommendation of action for the Executive Committee, which the Executive Committee will formally decide whether to pursue the request, and the requesting group will be informed accordingly. In agreeing to cosponsor the program of another group, the Executive Committee will seek to avoid scheduling cosponsored programs against RBMS programs whenever possible. If the Executive Committee agrees to pursue a request for cosponsorship by RBMS of the program of another group, the chair of the section will appoint someone as liaison from RBMS to participate in the planning and execution of the program. The RBMS representative will report periodically to the RBMS Executive Committee on the status of the program and will recommend whether RBMS cosponsorship should continue or be withdrawn.
As appropriate, the Executive Committee will approve cosponsorship of programs presented to the Executive Committee in a completed state.
Cosponsorship by another group of an RBMS program
When another group offers to cosponsor an RBMS program, the Conference Development Committee will evaluate the offer and recommend to the Executive Committee whether to pursue the offer. The Executive Committee will formally decide whether to pursue the offer and the offering group will be informed accordingly. If the Executive Committee agrees to accept an offer of cosponsorship by another group, the Chair of the Section will request the offering group to appoint someone as liaison to RBMS to participate in the planning and execution of the RBMS program.
The ACRL Board must approve all cosponsorships of ALA programs that involve expenditures of ACRL funds, as well a all cosponsorships with organizations outside ALA. (See the ACRL Guide to Policies and Procedures.
